News on Aberfeldy New Masterplan

“Nobody asks us, we are just kids.” That’s what 17-year-old and student at Langdon Park school Fathine Quaium said to Guardian journalist Harriet Grant on how young people are not usually consulted in new local developments.

But our new masterplan for Aberfeldy is not usual.

We are taking a revolutionary approach to this scheme that places the entire community at the heart of everything we do, and young people are an enormous part of that community. Because young people are the futures of our communities and they deserve a say in that future.

The Guardian followed our team member Dinah Bornat from ZCD Architects as she spoke to local sixth formers about their area, and what they wanted to see happen in their neighbourhood.

And it was clear that youth engagement was a top priority, as was creating healthier and safer streets.

We are committed to delivering both, and much more.

Two of the key objectives of the masterplan are making our communities safer and more cohesive and improving the public realm and environment with cleaner streets, better air quality and more green spaces.

We’ve been consulting with pupils at Langdon Park school and Culloden Primary School as well as parents and teachers. We’ve also begun our consultations with residents, workers, business owners, visitors and faith leaders to ensure that this is a scheme for the community by the community.

But we want everyone to have their say and help shape the future of Aberfeldy.
